The King Seiko Vanac is Reborn

The King Seiko Vanac is Reborn

After nearly 50 years, Seiko relaunches the VANAC with a new mechanical movement and modern angular design. The King Seiko VANAC design series, originally introduced in the 1970s, makes its return in 2025 with a bold, sportier look. These timepieces are driven by Seiko’s latest evolution of the 8L movement platform, offering enhanced accuracy and an extended power reserve. Drawing inspiration from the sprawling cityscape where King Seiko was born, the new models are themed around the Tokyo horizon — a vast metropolis that seems to stretch infinitely into the distance.

The case and dial take their inspiration from the Tokyo horizon — a city-scape celebrated in art, film, and popular culture for its ever-changing expression throughout the day. While the VANAC’s bold, angular silhouette evokes the impression of being sculpted from solid metal, its bezel-less construction lends a refined, slim profile. A newly developed bracelet, crafted from a combination of mirror-polished and hairline-finished links, enhances both wearing comfort and the watch’s distinctive sense of luxury and sophistication.

Vintage Vanac Collection

The new movement’s beautiful finishing can be seen through the watch’s sapphire crystal case back. In fact, the new VANAC has the first see through case back of any King Seiko watch following the collection’s relaunch in 2022. Caliber 8L45 achieves a power reserve of 72 hours thanks to an improved mainspring and has an accuracy of +10 to -5 seconds per day. It was engineered to have the robustness and other qualities demanded of movements that power modern-day mechanical sports watches. Through its combination of high performance and functional beauty, Caliber 8L45 represents the pinnacle of Seiko’s mechanical watch movements.
